The Busy Bee

The Busy Bee
(A bedtime story for the modern child)
The little bee was, for a moment, happy. It enjoyed its daily task of flying out to collect the pollen and nectar the hive required to make its honey. It enjoyed working outdoors, the excitement of finding a new bloom and collecting the fresh pollen before one of those silly butterflies did. The sun was warm on her back, the air fresh, and the thought of the lovely taste of fresh honey made her heart jump. Honey was the most important thing in the world. Everyone liked golden honey, and everyone wanted more if they could get it. She put aside all the fears and troubles that had been buzzing around the hive and focused on finding the biggest blossom she could. Maybe then she could make her quota for the day, and the angry manager bee would pay her the small scoop of honey she had earned, and like all bees, desired.
